Bill,
Pros and cons:
- they're easier to clean if they're unmounted, but they get finger prints
if you're not careful (wear white gloves)
- your scanner may take a different size 'batch' - mine handles 6 unmounted
vs. 4 mounted
- they're easier to handle if they're mounted
- I would avoid glass mounts (dust traps)
