Hi Fellow Zuiks

Well, I didn't intend that my raising the topic should turn into a competition
about who had loaned the most lenses to Gary for testing, nice though it is
to see what a history this community has.

I'm hoping to get one of these supports at a good price. Yesterday I asked
my supplier to quote a price, since Manfrotto don't give prices on their site.

The response I got was "Offer me a price over $30 .... "

Now, that's $NZ 30, which equates to about $US 14.50 and Euro about the
same. I'll bet the normal price is away over that.

I have to call and inspect to check it's what I expect it to be; the reason
it's
discounted is that their item is missing the front strap. Shouldn't be a
problem to make a successful substitute. But I've asked them to put it in a
back room with my name on it.

Now, why would I bother? I'm told it's a bit of a fiddle to use. So why?

I spend hours (add up all those minutes) poring over Gary Reese's lens test
results. Comparing and thinking.

And also over Lee Hawkins Modern Photography tests

http://brashear.phys.appstate.edu/lhawkins/photo/mp-zuiko-tests.txt

and bearing in mind my pre-occupation which some might have noticed by
now, with resolution and contrast, it has crossed my mind that the use of
this device results in an improvement in image quality that is close to the
difference between a consumer-grade lens and a pro-grade lens. All for
taking a bit more care with tripod shots. So - why not?

Oh well, we'll see how it pans out. I've so far only seen the image provided by
Manfrotto. It's early days yet and may all come to nothing.

I'll get that darned 100 f/2 to do it's thing YET, so I will.

Bridges were made to cross.

Brian
