You could also compare Amsterdam (Netherlands) with New Amsterdam (New
York, technically Manhattan isn't it?).

...and compare the Hebrides to the New Hebrides, Caledonia to
New Caledonia and, to bring it full circle, "New Holland" (a
pre-James Cook, Dutch name for Australia), to Holland.
