Almost every auto-exposure OM is designed to "lock up" in some form or
the other if there is a malfunction or if the batteries are dead. If
fresh, new batteries don't correct the problem, and the battery cover
and bottom cover are clean and tight, my money is on the former -- a
malfunction of some sort. Could be anything from loose ground screws to
a faulty main circuit if that's the case. I suspect it needs a deft
hand -- i.e., a specialist.
