Not to be taking sides, but I sure hope you've tried to work with John on
this situation, since making this type of accusation in a public forum
could make you legally liable. I sell on e*bay and I give folks a fair
chance to examine the goods and return them if they want. If someone
wants to return something, I take it back, but they had better get it
back to me within the week. After waiting two years (!) you want him to
honor a repair? I think that's nuts, IMHO.

I shouldn't take sides and won't. But to be fair, let me quickly relate another side of John and how he operates his business.

The long and short of it is I had him overhaul a power pack for one of my motor drives, and while he had it I asked if he'd put NiMH batteries in there instead of NiCd's. He was reluctant to do so (in fact he used to run a short article on this issue on his site, and it's probably still there) but finally relented (I wanted to use this as a test--I've three other power packs with NiCd's in them) and sent me the reworked unit. All was well this summer in Spain for a coupe of shoots, but when I went to recharge this pack it wouldn't work. When I returned from vacation I sent it back to John and asked him to see what was wrong with it. He responded that one of the NiMH cells were bad.

Bottom line is that he ate the cost of his mistake (to let me talk him into using NiMH's instead of NiCd's) even though he could have easily charged me for another repair job (in fact, I told him to do so if he thought that was proper, but he sent it back to me gratis).

Now, does that sound to anyone out there like a man who stops short of giving good service? To me it does not. I've no special interest here in either party but I must say my dealings with John have been cordial and happy, or at least from my end everything's okay. I know that within my experience the work he does is topnotch. I wouldn't be surprised if he's not perfect in some way, but then who is?

I'd guess we could do a whole lot worse when it comes to OM repairs. Indeed, I have in the past. Haven't you?

Tris
