Unlike most of you, I like and use ever-ready cases (ERC).  I use the
whole  case to transport bodies, and the bottom half to protect the body
when shooting.

Me too!  I always like to keep the bottom half on, where possible, to
protect the body.  As have the previous owners of my assorted OMs, it would
appear.  I use the whole thing on walking trips, where weight is an issue,
taking say 3 prime lenses & one body.  One is on the body & the other 2 are
in a soft lens pouch, mounted on a contraption of 2 rear lens caps
superglued together.
