My first real photo job was as an assistant to a commercial shooter. There
were two of us, and we did most all of the lab work, and some of the
shooting, while he did all the high profile shooting, all the six martini
lunches, and all the afternoons with his mistress, with whom we would have
each liked to have spent a single afternoon with, just to see what it was
like. Having an afternoon mistress, I mean.

One of the things we did were catalog shots, that required large 8x10 print
orders. This was before RC B&W paper, so it was all hand processed. for
single prints, I ALWAYS used stainless steel tongs (still do), but for these
big orders, I used bare hands. We would expose all 100 at once, making sure
to use an exposure that would allow up to two minutes in the developer. We
used deep trays and lots of developer, and processed 25 or so at a time.
Each was inserted individually, to assure full imersion in the chemical, and
then the bottom one was pulled to the top, and again, and again, etc. It
worked really well, but I can't imagine doing this with gloves. No allegry
problems, fortunately.

Oh, and we always used stop bath. If you don't, you will get uneven
development. On a large print, this can mean splotches. Big ones. It's not
expensive. Use it.
