At 14:49 5/9/02, B.B. Bean wondered:
My new batteries are marked 357 High Drain (SR44W/313)

What's the difference between these and a normal Silver 76, or 357?
Are these still a good choice for my OM bodies?

Peach Orchard,

Yes, absolutely.

By specification the #357 (a.k.a. SR44W) is "high drain." The packaging is simply stating what is in the specification. There is nothing special about them. The SR44, MS76, etc. is a different specification and is not made to withstand occasional demands for high drain. This "high drain" occurs when you use very long shutter speeds, the self timer, and especially the viewfinder illuminator. In addition, the #357 spec sheet shows a discharge curve that holds voltage just under 1.5 volts until the very bitter end of life. The curves for the SR44 and MS76 do not hold voltage quite as well in the latter half of life, although they're not nearly as bad as the alkaline cells.
