Hmm.  Unknown, but we might start a craze here.  I am curious as
to when the iris changed.  Mine is serrated at F4 and F5.6. 
Newer ones that I've looked at no longer have that
characteristic.

My lens also has a severe "star" affect with point-sourced
lights.  I'm thinking that there isn't any one thing, but the
whole pool of design weaknesses that conspire to make an
exceptional lens.

I compare this lens to a nice over-stuffed easy-chair.  A
park-bench might be more properly shaped and designed for the
"masses", but there is nothing like going home, kicking the
foot-rest up, leaning back and chowing on a bowl of popcorn.
