Using a dedicated flash with an OM-4 increases battery drain about 10x
-- if your batteries are weak or marginal, the camera may work fine
without a flash, but when the flash is attached, funny things begin to
happen....

Yes, alas, but they aren't weak and it happened even without flash, and now it's working, and all on the same set of batteries. Did I mention that the batteries are not weak and marginal? ;-)
