It has to do with switching lenses. I think the memory
for the spotemeter is cleared when you switch lenses
so it doesn't go on wrong readings i.e if you use a
50/1.8 spotmetered wide open that obviously is a
different reading than if you switched to a 28/3.5
wide open. The memory lasts for an hour I think so if
you didn't have htis feature you could be taking
things at the wrong exposure for quite awhile if you
forgot to clear the memory.
