Once again, Gary's tests covered the ground, 50mm/f8 is A-/A-, 70mm/f8 is A/A and part of his comment is:

"Primary differences from 35-80mm f/2.8 Zuiko is that it requires
f/11 for optimum performance (vs. f/8) and isn't as useable wide open."

From my experience what gives the 35-80 the edge is that
its performance is high over a wider range of apertures and it has the extra stop. But with the 35-70 at f/8 and the 35-80 at most apertures, there is no noticeable difference in image quality, printed or projected. Could be a slightly different story under a high powered loupe though.
