The hyperfocal distance is the distance at which everything from half that
distance to infinity is in acceptably sharp focus.

Sound complicated? It isn't. Look at the DOF markings on your lens. Turn the
lens until the infinity mark on the focus ring is at the DOF line for the
aperture you're using. The lens is now focused at the hyperfocal distance,
and you have the maximum depth of field possible at that aperture.

Fixed-focus cameras commonly have their lenses set at the hyperfocal
distance.
