I admit, I am biased. My apologies. Something jades one towards things
consumer electronic after a quarter century of consumer electronic
repair technician experience I suppose. I have nothing against a low
cost to high feature ratio, don't get me wrong. I bought my wife a
Stylus Epic and she loves it. When I get my kids a boom box or portable
CD it's always the cheapest one that offers acceptable performance. Then
again, much of my hi-fi gear dates back to the 1970s (all except the CD
player and DAC box). But too much disposability is a bad thing overall.
In our county no charities take used TVs for donations any
longer--working ones! Only way to dispose is at the land fill for a high
fee. Same with computer surplus (the worst offender really). Just think,
if all our OM stuff would be disposable, there would be no Johns and
Clints on this list--I for one would lament that.

I guess I used the wrong phrase in "finely crafted" where I meant "high
quality," meaning something of lasting value. Like our OM gear.
