Nothing will ever beat 4x5. In an ideal world, I would contact print
4x5 negs all day. Not only is that print size great, but it has
infinite detail.

I am always amazed at the folks who try to push the limits of 35mm. To
my eye, a good 5x7 print with superb tonal richness is much more
valuable than a lesser quality 8x10. in fact, I rarely print at all
(unless for a client). I much prefer the slide show as a means of
presentation. There is something ethereal about a projected image.
Also, since the image is only shown for a fleeting moment (almost like
the moment when the photograph was taken) it remains pure in our minds,
and will not be scrutinized as a tactile work of art.

Then we start the 20
questions, trying to determine what their needs and expectations are. Or
they add "Is a (name brand here) a good camera?" "I know this guy at
work, and he has a (name brand nere) camera and his pictures are real
good." If I'm in a mood I reply without hesatation, Speed Graphic, a
puzzled look, "what?" Ya want good pictures don't ya? "well..yes", then
there ain't nutten like a good four by five Graphic! I don't smoke, but
at times like that I almost wish I had a soggy cigar poking out of the
corner of my mouth, for the effect. My apoligies to the list for this
ramble,
I'm in a mood. John Robison
