Here?s a direct quote from the Thomas Tomosy book Chuck mentioned (I?ve got
a copy too).

"Restoring the Great Collectible Cameras," page 110:

"Cleaning Coated Glass: Use acid-free glass cleaner (Windex) and facial
tissue. Paper products meant for wiping will not damage the lens. It's
the dirt, the grit, and dust on it that does the harm. Blow the dust off
before cleaning. Ball up a small piece of tissue and apply Windex to it.
Don't spray onto the lens. Wipe the lens with the soaked tissue.

"Take a clean piece, ball it up, breathe on the lens and wipe it off.
Never wipe dry glass with dry tissue. Do not rub! Start at the center,
wipe in one direction in a spiral working outwards. Discard the tissue.
Take a new tissue and do it again if not satisfied. If the lens is very
dirty, especially if contaminated with oil, grime or finger grease, start
with lighter fluid the same way as described above, and follow up with
Windex. Alcohol works as well. Most importantly, prevent dirt from
contaminating the lens. Keep the lens cap on when the camera is not in
use. Vacuum the inside of the camera case and/or the gadget bag
periodically. Do not touch the lens with a finger. The less frequently
you have to clean the lens, the better."

As Forrest Gump said, that's all I know about that.

Walt

Thanks for sharing that. It never occurred to me to vacuum the gadget bag.
