Personally I would go 35mm and 100mm. And I would sharpen my knife too ;)

Well, 25 days to go...

I'm starting to get things organized for the backpacking trip
next month. I've got the breakfasts figured out, new boots on
the way and the sleeping bag and pad out and ready. The
backpack is still in pretty good shape, but needs a couple minor
modifications to keep the frame from falling apart on day two.

Oh, and I'm ~mostly~ vegitarian for the next few weeks to get my
body chemestry a little bit better for the outdoor environs.

Looking at my camera equipment I'm second guessing how much to
take. Does one REALLY need both the 35mm and the 24mm? How
about the 135mm and 100mm. Hmm. They're pretty light, but the
200/4 is a bit chunkier. How about a flash? Film will be
Provia-F, Delta 100, and some HP-5. At the moment I'm
contemplating the following:

OM-2S, OM-4, 24/2.4, 35/2.4, 50/3.5, 100/2.8, 200/4, flash,
backpacking tripod, filters, extension tubes and cable release.

Is there much duplication? Can I live without the 50/3.5?
There is a part of me that only wants to take the 35 and 100. I
could probably leave the flash home--wouldn't bother me too
much.

Oh, almost forgot. I am taking the monopod with me. I've
successfully used it as a walking stick. Hangs nicely on the
backpack regardless.

Destination? Isle Royale in Lake Superior. Weather will be a
complete unknown. Plan for snow, be prepared for 70-80s--all
within an hour or two. Rain, sleet, snow, sunshine, bugs. All
of the above?

I find it interesting that backpacks have changed styles so much
over the past 10 years. When I bought mine, external frames
were "in" and internal frames were "eeww", now it's the
opposite. I'll stick with my external framed jobby for now. No
budget to buy a new one anyway. After this trip, I may very
well retire the bag, but that will depend on how many zip ties
and how much duct-tape is required to hold it together.

I have a tendency to travel pretty light, except for socks,
undies and gloves . Some areas aren't worth compromising. I'm
already adjusting my diet for the trip so my system shouldn't be
shocked too much by a high carb diet. The tent and cooking
stuff will be shared between the two of us.

Probably should sharpen my knife.

So, how about a vote:

Item Yes No
------------- --- ---
24/2.8
35/2.5
50/3.5
100/2.8 X (sorry already decided on that)
135/3.5
200/4
Flash
Extension Tubes
