Rangefinder cameras have several small but real advantages over SLRs: they
vibrate less; they can be quieter; the viewfinder never blacks out; and
there is less delay between pressing the shutter release and the shutter
opening.

For some users, one or more of these advantages is the deciding factor. But
for most users, the SLR's raison d'etre -- the ability to view what you're
photographing through the lens -- trumps any other consideration. Which is
why the SLR has almost completely taken over professional formats smaller
than 4x5.

So, I'd be curious to hear from Larry Clark a more detailed explanation why
he switched from an SLR to a rangefinder. It must go deeper than just liking
the camera's lenses or its "feel." I'm not asking for a "moral
justification"; I just want a better understanding of the personal factors.
