Hmmmm. I don't see a name on the latter picture, but it does look to precede
the design of the 'IV' model. The difference I see between them is the AM
IIIF uses buttons to select all settings while the FM III uses thumbwheels.
Different approach. If working properly, the thumbwheels would be preferable
to me. Can't tell how the specs may compare either.

The Auto Meter IIIF bears a similar design and foot print as the Flash Meter
V. The 'Flash Meter III' seems to have a smaller LED window, unlike the
other models pictured in various places.

I can't find anything at the Minolta site about the FM III. Suspect there
may not have been many made. It doesn't have the appearance that it was
'dressed' for marketing. Is it a collectable?

If anyone is interested, the Auto Meter IIIf has performed beautifully for
me. Every exposure based on it's readings has been perfect. I paid $125 and
am thoroughly pleased. I would heartily recommend it and would consider any
other Minolta Flash Meter, regardless of the crazy way they name them!

The names ARE confusing. Maybe we've made it a little clearer, maybe not....
