John,
I've had OMs not fire the flash because the speed was too close to the max
synch speed of 1/60. Lighting can change and push the level over 1/60 ever
so slightly and cause the flash to remain dark. The metered display could be
out of synch with the flash synch device. Before my OM-2 was CLAd the flash
would not fire if the meter was pointing midway between 30 and 60. After CLA
it would fire right up to 60.  It doesn't sound like an F280 problem unless
it won't fire at slower shutter speeds or on manual at 1/30. Do other flash
units fire at speeds slower than the 1/60 mark?
