The whole place is worth seeing but it takes some time. The nights will be
cold in September and it will snow sometimes. The daytime can be quite
comfortable though. Most of the grizzlies will be seen in the Lamar Valley.
Some have been hanging around Lake and Mammoth this year. There was a sow
and two cubs at Swan Lake earlier. Black bears can be seen anywhere. Most of
the wolf sightings are in the LaMar Valley area. The best area for seeing
elk will be from Madison to Mammoth. The bison range over the area from Old
Faithful to Mammoth. Unfortunately, the road from Madison to Norris is
under construction and is a little messy. The thermal features are mostly in
the area from Old Faithful to Norris and around Mammoth. The lodge at Old
Faithful is a wonderful old building and is worth a visit. The Grand Canyon
of the Yellowstone is beautiful and should not be missed. There are some
fires burning in the Northeast part of the park and there may be some access
limitations in that area. Take some good binoculars and both telephoto and
wide angle lenses.

http://www.nps.gov/yell/cal.htm is the Yellowstone URL but it won't work
this morning so they may be down or the URL has changed.

Where do you plan to stay?

I'll be making my first trip to Yellowstone National Park early next
month. Any "don't miss" suggestions while I'm there? Thanks, Bill Barber
