 As other people have said, I don't think there's anything particularly
wrong with nuking the background in Photoshop for this sort of subject; you
could equally have taken the flower into a studio to shoot them, or taken a
background to the flowerbed. The subject is the point of those photos, not
the location. If you'd nuked the existing background and then replaced it
with, say, some sort of tropical rainforest, then at that point it starts to
fall into the realm of 'cheating'. 

 For comparison's sake, there's a _lot_ of discussion of this sort of thing

 which is (imho) a photo that falls into the realms of digital art rather
than a photo; some of the hands are photoshopped in to make it look like
there's more of them than there actually were.
