There is an interesting article in the October Sky and Telescope
about using your digital camera with a telescope. The camera used is
a Camedia C-2000Z. The author has modified it with a fan to cool the
CCD to reduce electronic noise. There are also pictures of the build
up of noise with long or multiple exposures and the effects of giving
it a cool down. The advantage of consumer cameras is, of course, cost
and not having to use a computer to create the image in conjunction
with a professional astronomical CCD imager. There are adaptors which
allow some cameras to be mounted directly to an eye piece, evidently,
giving a lot of flexibility in creating the image.

The usual photo gallery is expanded this month to show many examples
of this kind of photography including an Olympus among others.
