Are you thinking of R.G.Lewis of Holborn in London? Back in the 1970's they
used to test ALL lenses that they sold, and their prices reflected that
(about 10% more than other shops, if I remember correctly). I bought my
first two Zuikos from them, and I still have one of them (the 75-150 zoom).

Initially R.G.Lewis tested lenses using film and test targets, and assessing
the result in terms of "lines per millimetre" (or possibly "line-pairs per
millimetre"), and that is how my lenses were tested (I still have the test
negatives for the 75-150 zoom). Later they obtained an MTF machine and used
that to test lenses. Later still they discontinued this practice.
