Looks like digital cameras are set to become obsolete and depreciate
in value faster than pocket calculators. A very good reason not to
spend much on one until the ultra-high resolution ones are down in
the $300 range. That is unless you use one in a commercial operation
and hence can write off such losses and this is compenasated by the
digital advantages of instant results, transfers and publishing.

Well, that is like anything else.  Don't buy something that doesn't
do what you want.  And don't dump it because something newer came
out, if it still does what you want.  For instance, if you just want
web pictures, 1.3 megapixels is overkill.

 The 20 megapixel camera will probably be limited by lens quality.
Perhaps that will spur lens development and a return to single focal
lengths?
