F5 is right on the lower edge of usability at that focal length. The
problem is the combination of dimmer image in the viewfinder combined
with too much depth of field at the maximum aperture at which you focus.
The brighter series 2 focusing screens help a lot and can be used
directly on the OM-2S and up bodies without modification. I have a
Tamron 90/2.5 and find it quite usable with the matched 2x flat field
converter on a 2 series screen in reasonable light. Also takes great pics.

2 stops for a 2x converter, your 90mm f2.5 becomes a 180mm f5.
