Cheap digitals are less useful on trips because of the limited picture
storage space and remoteness from one's own computer.

I think they are extensively used for local family/friend gatherings and
outings, when the computer is available soon after. Digital pix are much
cheaper than film.

Family photos are also more distributed by email than trip photos.
