makes economic sense. For one the costs to produce
35mm full frame CCDs or CMOSes goes up at a faster
rate than just the pixel count (perhaps exponentially)
and secondly, the ability to produce extreme telephoto
of a usuable size is much more easily done for a
smaller format size. It is technologically easier to
increase the pixel count of a small CCD rather than a
larger CCD (or so I conjecture).
