The 2s's often develops a problem with a lever inside that stops the wind
gears from turning at the wind of their cycle. This lever gets sticky,
allowing the gears to keep turning when they shouldn't, which has the net
result of jamming the camera. Sometimes this is temporary -- jiggle things
around and the gears slip free and work for a while. Eventually the camera
will jam for good -- or at least until the mechanism is cleaned and the
gears unjammed.

The "directional" aspect is unusual -- could also be that a spring is
unhooked. You might want to remove the bottom cover and look at the short
lever behind and next to the battery chamber -- it should have a rather
heavy, short spring hooked to it. It (the lever) works the black lever that
gets sticky (above). With the camera wound, the black lever should move
quickly when moved. If it's slow and sluggish, it's got to be cleaned.
