Walt,

I have a B & L Criterion 4000 that is 1200mm/f12. In my experience the f12
seems to be pretty close. I don't recall using anything faster than 400 ASA
with mine and usually use 100 ASA. In fact, I had it out today with 100ASA
and was getting a shutter speed of 1/125. (Yes, I do use a tripod with this
one, even with a winder or MD on the body, this outfit is too light and
unbalanced to hand hold.) It is a lot lower contrast than any of my Zuikos
or Tamrons, and the depth of field is minimal, focus carefully! On the
other hand, it is 1200mm and may be the only way to get some shots.

It also attracts attention. Today during my lunch hour I was taking a few
shots of the new statue they are putting on top of the State Capitol
building (from 3 blocks away) and had about 20 students from the High School
across the street wander over to check out the set-up and see what the "old
guy" was up to.

OFF TOPIC, a little bit, speaking of the High School across the street,
check out

and see the grand prize winner in the PSA Youth Photo Contest (sadly not
taken with OM gear) sponsored by me, well, my camera club anyway.

Have fun with the new toy!
