Mike, Bogen makes a sliding quick-release system that lets you adjust the
fore and aft position of the lens to get a good balance point. The mount has
a locking pin that prevents the lens plate from sliding all the way out. I
just bought another one and really like the way they work. I have the part
number at home and can get it this weekend if you want it. /jim

Subject: [OM] 350/2.8 lensmount lock (and spare parts question)

This post is mostly directed towards John H and/or Clint, but any advice on
this will be greatly appreciated.

To preface, Olympus of America's Customer (dis?)Service just informed me
that the 350/2.8 was "discontinued 10 years ago" (a convenient period of
time to quote) and thus no spare parts or service is available. I mentioned
that B&H still list the lens as being available new on "special order" and
was told they are selling "old inventory." I can believe that they stopped
production 10 years ago, but I would wager that OoA has sold new 350/2.8s
more recently than that.

Anyway, some may recall my post a while back about the lock on my 350/2.8
lensmount not securing the body (or 1.4XA) well any longer. A couple days
ago I managed to drop my OM-4T w/MD2 body as a result and really want to fix
this if possible. (The fall was not far and thankfully no harm was done.) I
took apart a junker 50/1.8 I have but the lensmount parts do not appear to
be interchangeable with those on the 350. I would prefer not so ship the 350
for repairs plus there really is not a long enough window of time I could be
without it since I really have no backup for it.

Also the tripod mount/handle threads on one of the holes (there are four
tripod holes--this one just happens to be the one with the best balance
point) are stripping out. I guess a handle/tripod mount would be asking too
much--how best to fix? Perhaps some sort of helicoil? (What is the thread
for tripod mounts anyway?)

I know, I know...I shouldn't be using "antique equipment" for professional
use--but I like my OM gear and it works well for me.
