So, I think I need to invest in a flash bracket. Is there anything, probably

one they want to sell?

Wayne,
Pleased you didn't suffer any casualties with the camera gear.

How sturdy is the tripod socket on the bottom of the TLR? Can you use mount a handle to it without damaging (bending) the door?

Most potato mashers allow the handle to disconnect from the baseplate. Both Metz and Sunpak make medium format baseplates that are somewhat square shaped and fit all their flash handles. Both also make handles that will mount a "hotshoe" type flash (Metz flash head slides onto the G15/G16 handles as if it were an SCA module). If you're looking for something more substantial on which you can put a shoe mount, check out Stroboframe, Newton, and Lindahl.
