I think they will have to have some staying power to
stay in the game. There are some big advantages to a
small CCD:
1. It will be easier to increase the # of pixels in a
smaller CCD, ie. easier to increase pixel density than
build a bigger chip.(read lower production costs)
2. Read operations off the chip will be faster bec. of
the higher density.
3. The number of chips that go into the trash will be
less.(read lower production costs)
4. It will be easier to build equivalent 400/2.8 and
600/4 lens than their 35mm counterparts.(read lower
production costs)
5. The whole system size can be smaller (read lower
production costs)
6. Hopefully there will be third party lens that will
help to provide entry level systems.

Here's hoping

Went to the local photo store to pick up some
supplies. They said they will have the new K*dak DCS
PRO14n in around Dec., for $4000. This is what, 1/5th
to 1/10th the price of anything equivalent currently?
and the new C*non 11MP D-SLR is $9000?

While $4000 is still a lot of dough, Olympus really
have to work hard to convince people to buy into the
3/4 system for around $2000, even if they ever come
through w/ it.
