I have a Logitek scanner that I don't use anymore. It's about 3x3x12 inches
in size. I don't remember if it does color or not but will find out if you
are interested. /jim

Subject: [OM] [semi-OT] Hand-held scanners?

Does anyone know if it's possible to buy the hand-held scanners any more?
I'm going to be doing a _lot_ of travelling in the next year or so, and I
want to take the OM with me to take photos, and put said photos onto a web
page. I'll have a laptop along, but no way of getting photos from paper onto
the laptop -- hauling a flatbed scanner around is _not_ plausible, and I
don't want to end up having to find places that'll make PhotoCDs for me all
the time.

I've been trying to find those old hand-held ones that you'd drag across
the page -- not great, but they should do for scanning 4x6s -- but I can't
find any for sale. e*ay has some, but they all seem to require custom ISA
cards for your PC, which won't work with a laptop; www.photoscanner.com
sells something vaguely portable, but it's pretty expensive for what I need
it to do.

As an alternative, is there any decent way to set up a digital camera to
act as a scanner here? It seems like it should be possible if I set up a
little jig to keep everything in position, but lighting the photo'll be the
tricky part, as far as I can tell.

 Any other options I'm missing?

 thanks,
