I shoot, and people talk about "big guns vs. mouse guns" and I can tell you, a mouse gun is worth infinitely more on your persons, then a big gun in the safe.

Same with a tripod, a less expensive tripod at home, is not that great of a savings vs. a light tripod you carry...

That's why monopods are pretty popular I suspect..

I guess I don't use a tripod enough to understand why someone would pay $300 or more for a CF one... but that said, I guess I'd take one if someone gives
one away. My old Bogen 3011 works OK otherwise, and its no lightweight!

I guess the issue is whether you would use a tripod more often if it weighed half of what the 3011 weighs and whether the improvement in sharpness in the old pics is worth it.
