You are describing a technique that used to be called 'painting by light'.
This was used back before monster auto flashes and fast film to photograph
buildings at night or large interiors without multiple flash units. The
camera shutter was opened on 'Bulb' and held open, and the flash was fired
multiple times aimed in overlapping fashion until the whole scene had been
lighted. Results were something of a crapshoot until you developed the film
you couldn't tell if you had the right overlap and total light amount... I
suppose using the OM-2 would make the results more certain.
