I shot my first wedding today as back up photographer for the company that
runs our camera club. They specialise in White Weddings for the Japanese
market. The whole thing is scripted and you are to follow a strict photo
list. The images taken weren't taken with my Oly gear (Shot with a Fuji S1
Pro and EOS 50 instead) but the company was very happy with the images I
took and used a number of mine for the final albums. One thing that I did
realise was that apart from auto focus in the dim church the cameras did not
offer any other advantage to me. Everything was shot in manual mode at
between 1/30 f5.6 and 1/60 f5.6 at 400 iso. in the church and 1/125 at f22
outside unless shot in the shade.
Anybody thinking of doing wedding photography should really try and get a
gig like this where there is still pressure to perform but your head is not
on the chopping block like the head photographer. It was a great learning
curb and I am sure after a number of trials for them I will competent enough
to perform just as well as the head photographers. I could well imagine that
after a year working as back up photographer for this company that I would
be more than well prepared to do some of my own weddings but it would
definitely be with at least 2 camera bodies and a backup of everything or at
least using the services of another photographer as a backup.
I will try and see if I can use some of the images to put up on a page but I
doubt the company will let me use them.
Cheers Adam
