I generally just rap the cassette's spindle sharply on the bench, floor etc
and the opposite end cover will pop off allowing the spooled film to fall
into one's hand (or unravel itself into the distance leaving the film all
over the laundry floor!). Now a bottle opener, that's an idea!

Oh, I forgot that one.  I use a bottle opener too.  Perhaps there are other
better gadgets, but I've never needed one.
