Well, Bernard, you could just ship this off and be done
with it, you have friends here that will help you recover.

This is an affliction I don't wish to recover from for now.

Or, if you are adventurous, try this: Put a cheap filter
on the front of the lens. This is to protect the front element
from further, shall we say, screwupitus.

"borrow" your wife's rolling pin, and a wooden mallet. Slip the
lens shade over the rolling pin and every so gently tap the shade
back into shape. Take your time and tap on the high side, rolling
the shade around until it's circular again. Don't forget a gentle
pat on the side while purring "my precious"...

Unfortunately the rolling pin has a rather long handle at each end, which would dangerously tickle (did I say tickle?) the cheap filter first, then the front lens of my beloved 135/2.8 just behind... But OK, if I could find another cylindrical object with just the right diameter... perhaps another Zuiko... ahem...

I have a 135/2.8 which fell, and although the lens itself appears to
be OK (it is not visibly damaged, and produces good pictures), the
built-in hood (which was extended when the lens fell) is visibly
dented, to the point that it has become difficult to extend/retract.

Is it possible for a non-technical person like me to remove the hood,
try to work it into a smoother appearance with a hammer or other
tool, and put it back on the lens? The problem is that I cannot find
how to remove it from the lens in the first place ;-)

Bernard
