John, They were indeed portraits of the young Liz. The stamp and dollar
bill shots. Plus a couple of others. Nothing from later in her life so
maybe your source is right. Karsh had no qualms about working for hoi
poloi. Perhaps this didn't suit royal decorum, I don't know. According
to the documentary anyone could walk in off the street and have a
portrait done at very reasonable rates and receive full attention from
Karsh. He also traveled extensively and photgraphed most world leaders
and Hollywood/Jetset gliterati.
