First of all, to Linda and any other recent arrival to the fold,
I say "Welcome!" It isn't too late to run, but as you probably
have seen so far, you can't hide. Once OM gets under your skin
there is no cure. You are poisoned for life. This list is a
great community of very diverse people of every walk of life.
Through the years (I joined right after the list moved to the
Southern Hemisphere--so that really dates me) people have come
and gone with some coming and going a few dozen times. There
will be the occasional spat, but guess what? My wife and I spat
too, but we still love each other. For the most part, the ugly
types don't stick around. Few exceptions, but these eventually
get "auto-deleted" by most people.

Now, onto other things...

Darkroom. Ah! The continuing saga of developer stained
fingers... I spent some time today at one of those mega home
stuff-marts looking at all sorts of various construction things
for an upcoming basement remodeling project. Found an
ultra-quiet exhaust fan that was so quiet I couldn't hear the
demonstrator work. $109 USD, but it will be well worth it.
It's also designed for continous operation. Looked at various
counter materials and cabinets.

I'm torn on the concept of building (or buying) a LARGE darkroom
sink. I'll have a big utility sink in the darkroom and the
entire room will be climate controlled to maintain an even 68
degreees year-round, so temperature control of trays isn't an
issue. I'd rather have huge expanses of work surfaces than
single-use work areas that take up too much room. I've used the
big sinks before and really like them, but it would create a
limited use work space taking up at least 30 square feet of
floor space. Besides, I'd rather whatever I build be general
purpose enough that it wouldn't negatively affect the
sellability of the house. It would be pretty cool if the entire
space could double as a kitchen. (It will have its own fridge).
Anyway, the jury is still out on the sink, but I'm looking for
other solutions too. Regardless, I plan on having a minimum of
16 linear feet of counter-top space. I've got three enlargers
needing a solid space big enough for all three to be permenantly
positioned.

This darkroom construction planning seems kinda "retro" with
Digital looming large. Eventually, I know that I'll be 100%
digital. Which decade, I don't know, though. I kinda like the
idea of having an EMP proof photography system. Why a chemical
darkroom? Why be a Zuikoholic? Some things just can't be
explained.

Priced studs and drywall. I think that this construction
project will call for the steel studs. It'll save at least $.50
each and I don't need them to be load-bearing anyway. The
darkroom will probably have two doors (It'll be an L-shaped
room) for safe emergency egress. Anyway, the new darkroom will
be part of a full basement finishing project.

It'll be fun.
