It's colder'n a witch's tit here today -- at least for those of us
who habituate warmer climes, like Atlanta. It was 14º F. when I
got up at 7:30 a.m., and we may not get above freezing all day.
Brrrrr! It's a good day just to hang out with suitable libations
and poke the fire.

But I decided to take a few pictures of the birds at the feeders
we have all around, so I mounted an OM-3 (which, I'm sorry to
admit, I don't use all that often) with a 400/6.3 Zuiko and auto
extension tube 25 (so as to focus close enough) on a tripod, with
the lens sticking out through barely opened glass sliding doors.

I took a couple of spot readings off the feeder I had aimed at and
then tried to do the "memo" thing to put the reading in memory.
No matter how often I tried to push the little lever to the left,
it simply wouldn't move. I tried again. And again. Muttering
inappropriate language under my breath, I took the camera off the
tripod to get a better look at what the problem might be.

I guess I've been using OM-4s too long. Now my forehead hurts
from the mandatory self-admonishment that comes with the
realization that there are a couple of major differences between
OM-3s and OM-4s. I flunked big time what's probably the first
test in the remedial course "Mechanical Shutter 101."
