The correct answer to any question of moderate or greater complexity is, "It 
depends." :-)

My personal bias is that it isn't a camera if I can't look through the lens. 
And I don't count so-called "electronic viewfinders" or the silly little 
preview LCD displays as "looking through the lens." That alone puts the E-10 in 
a different class. But as I said, that's my bias -- not shared by the 
Leicaholics who abound here, no doubt!

For general "snapshot" picture taking, the 5050 is smaller and lighter, but the 
E-10 has a LOT going for it for pro use, like hot shoe, PC terminal (about half 
my work is on a copy stand with strobes), two media slots (for  on-site gigs, I 
back-up my shots IN the camera!), wider aperture range, available high-capacity 
battery pack, intervalometer, white balance calibrated in degrees K, etc.

But if I were to be considering an E-10, I'd concentrate on looking for an E-20 
instead. It has numerous improvements, besides the obviously larger sensor.
