Went to shoot CART "champ cars" at the Open Test at Laguna Seca today.
Beautiful weather, excellent light, and an exciting atmosphere.

Hooked up with list member Stephen Scharf this morning who also had
access to the exciting side of the fence. Stephen was kind enough to let
me play with his new D60 with 100-400L IS zoom a bit. I guess we'll know
better if there were any "keepers" in the frames I fired off, but it
sure seemed like a very capable and well made tool for the job, that's
for sure. I tasted the darkside and I think I liked it. If the 4/3
system is in this league it would be way cool.

Shot a bunch of frames on the E-10 and a few rolls of Provia F on the
OMs (OM content) and had a great day. Off to do it all over again
tomorrow. Had to share the moment with y'all.

Hey there...

Got home yesterday (Sunday) about 7 PM. It was a great week of shooting the Superbikes on WED/THUR and the CART cars on Sat/Sun. It was really nice hooking up with Mike and shooting with real access (yeah!), and swapping cameras for a while. It was fun to shoot with the E10. Sat. night I burned a CD-R for Mike of his shots from Saturday, and there were definitely a number of keepers in there...they looked great. I hope he will post a link so we can look at them on his site. Life on the dark side can be pretty sweet. Those C*n*ns get the job done. On topic, the E10 was really nice, small and very compact, easy to use. The keeper Mike sent me looked great. It's shutter is a little too sensitive for me right now, but I could get used to that. The shutter on the D60 is nice and positive. The 100-400L is an amazingly versatile lens, and I mounted a 1.4 X teleconvertor on it while MIke and I were shooting Sunday at Turn 5, drivers right, and I could pop them pretty good at about 896 mm (!) using the monopod. It's amazing how much glass you need for cars and especially bikes at some places on the track. Mike was using the Beast, the might 350 Zuiko with his flat field convertor.

Here's some links to the dark side photos for those who are interested in taking a sneak peek....

Mike,
Please post your link to your shots, both for the D60 and E10....

Cheers,
Stephen Scharf
