It sounds like you may have a bad connection somewhere, there are few things
you should check.  If you have one of the older black painted battery caps,
check to make sure that the threads on the edge of the cap are free of any
paint.  Also check the threads on the bottom plate and the inside of the battery
cap to ensure they are clean.  You should also ensure the four screws which
hold the bottom plate on are tight.  A good contact is needed at all of these
points in order to power the camera.

The OM-2S in general is a good camera, but as with any piece of equipment,
there is always the possibility of a bad one.  In many cases all that is
needed is a CLA to have the camera give many more years of trouble free
service.
