I have the 28-90mm and it identifies as a 2.8 but its really 2.8-3.5 in use. Its a nice lense but a very heavy piece of glass and is subject to a bit of 'zoom creep'. It was part of the second line of Series I lenses built in the early 90's

I thought the Series I 28-90mm was f2/8-3.5. Is there another one that is 2/8 all the way?

The Tamron ASP 35-105/2.8 is of reasonable size and weight and an excellent performer. I've been carrying that with a 28/2 when needing speed. I've just picked up a Tokina AT-X 24-40/2.8 to try out for the role of faster wide angle zoom.

Or the similar Series 1 28-90mm f2.8... Easily better than the Tamron.

Now that I'd like A LOT assuming it's F2.8! Sigh. There aren't even good 3rd party lens in that range. The closest is the Tamron 28-105/2.8 but that's a monster compared to the Zuiko 35-80! (Yes, I like fast lens :-) )

Have you tried the Vivitar Series 1 (28 - 85mm f2.8)?
