Wayne -- no doubt some of the problem might be coming from the film choice,
but most all films are very sensitive to UV. There is much more UV light at
high altitudes, so even though your eye/brain does a 'software' auto-white
balance adjustment and filters out the blue cast, the film can't do that.

I think a UV filter is more effective at lower altitudes, but is simply
overwhelmed by the much stronger UV at high altitudes. I suspect that K64
will give you good colors if 'helped' along with a warming filter e.g. 81A
or 81C. Some companies make 'warm polarizers'... those might be even more
effective as they would also reduce specular glare from rocks, foliage, etc.
resulting in more saturated colors.
