The problem with certain rare lenses is a paucity of market data -- they have 
big variation bars. If only a few are sold, they tend to be sold at widely 
varying prices, whereas with the 50/1.8 (for example), the shape of the normal 
curve is quite steep and the outliers are few.

With rare items like the 20/2 and 38/2.8, people who have "the jones" pay 
whatever price to get one. Don't expect a bargain for those on eBay -- cruise 
KEH, Cameta, Woodmere, and other camera shops who have their own listings.

If you have a little extra cash, you can sometimes pick up combos and sell the 
bits you don't want to end up with a bargain. (Shades of Tom Scales... :-) I 
paid $1000 for a 38/2.8, 20/2, 135/4.5, 80/4 and bellows with double release in 
10- condition a few years ago. Not quit a Fang, but I was happy. Problem is, I 
didn't want to part with ANY of it! I bought them from Woodmere Cameras. They 
were priced as a package.
