[OM] Strange times...

Some friends of mine were staging a war protest downtown today as people got off work. It started at 4:30 on a catwalk over a main street in downtown and moved around the downtown area. I took my OM-4T and 35-80mm f2.8 to take some photos. At one point I was standing across the street from them and a motorcycle cop pulled up and told me, "There's nothing to see here." I jokingly said, "Is there nothing to see or nothing to take pictures of?" I guess that was the wrong thing to say. He started telling me how much my bail would be if he called for a cruiser to take me in and asked me if I'd like to be cuffed and restrained on the ground while we waited. I said, "My car's parked right over there. I'd leave now, but I'd have to cross against the red to get to it." He seemed happy with that and crossed to street to hassle my friends. I saw them getting in motion and caught up with them a few blocks later. He apparently gave them the same line of crap and they started walking out of the downtown area (they told him they'd parked at the college), which apparently made him happy enough.

I live in one of the most liberal little north bay communities imaginable. It's hard to put a finger on why our local heat is freaking so hard, but it was really unnerving. April works for the local Sheriff's Office, as a matter of fact, but this was city cops. Freaky. If he'd run my license plate it would have spit out "Sonoma County Sheriff's Office," as a matter of fact. Both our cars are set up to respond to a search with the Sheriff's Office info instead of our personal info. Anyway, just an odd little moment in trying to take some photos that I thought I'd share.
