Does this imply that Tech Pan is IR sensitive ?  I always thought that
it was a relatively low speed film, so shouldn't need any "special"
treatment when loading.

Tech Pan has extended red sensitivity, but not much real IR
sensitivity.

I suspect the concern has more to do with technical use, where
Tech Pan is treated as a fairly fast film with very precise
exposeure properties. Fogging that is imperceptible when you
develop the film as EI 25 may be significant when you're shooting
it at EI 400+.

Plus the clear Estar base is more prone to light piping than
typical film base.
